SD IV - Speed Demon Four

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Introduced in ’07 as an extension of the SD Series. Not groveler-specific like the shark, but not an ultra sensitive pro model like the whiplash either. Basically, it’s a cross of the SD2 (flattish deck/full rails and slight vee in tail tips) and the SD3 with a bit wider tail and nose, giving a drivier outline and area to hold the four fins.
This is the “Every Man’s Quad”. It lends itself to all those who like the SD series combination of high performance qualities and conservative forgiveness with built in glide. Ride just 1-2” shorter than your normal board or the same length as an SD2 thruster.
For ’08, we are producing mainly as a straight quad fin setup in both dbl-wing swallow or diamond tail.

Sd III - Speed Demon Three

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

The Pros choice for smaller WQS style waves in ’07. First released in ’06, it has had the best response we ever had for a new model. A sleeker version of the SD2, with the vee removed from the tail, and latest fine tuned rocker, bottom and outline curves.
Built with a Vee deck to boxy, yet a thinner, more sensitive rail than the SD2. Fits in tight pockets with lots of snap for quicker, high speed turns. This board has become our all around work horse of a short board. Comes standard now as a slight bump squash, but was ridden with success and made popular as dbl wing swallow by Ward.
This is our “go to” board for most first time custom orders.

Rocket

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Shane’s version of a fish, or junk wave board. Originally shaped as a 5′3″ for Shane’s young son Noah by former …lost Shaper and pro surfer Noah Budroe. The board features a wide, forward outline with round forgiving rails, flat deck and a wide “rocket” tail. The rocker is extremely low in the entry (for instant speed) with an exaggerated kick in the tail for tight arcs out of turns.
This board actually has as much tail rocker as any board in our line. Coupled with a deep concave throughout and straitened stringer line, the board is a small to average wave all-rounder. It can be effectively ridden 4” to 10″ shorter ,1/4″ thinner and just slightly wider than your normal short board, without sacrificing any of the carve or drive.
This thing has to be ridden to be believed.

Firewire F1

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

“Formula 1″ is inspired by the ultimate performance of F1 racing cars. The perfect combination of speed and turning. Everything I have learned in 20years of shaping, influenced by working with the best shapers and surfers in the world culminates into this. What I consider to be the perfect combination of both drive and glide with both carving arcs and tight radius turning. It features design elements from every high performance model we have ever made (from the SD series to the Psycho Ward and Whiplash). Simply put, it’s our take on the modern, cutting edge, high performance shortboard. Now available in FST technology. Only available in New Zealand from The Boardroom. Sizes available in FST are
5′11 x 18 1/4 x 2 3/16 Squash tail
6′1 x 18 1/2 x 2 5/16 Squash tail

Round Nose Fish Quad

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

During the filming of 5’5” REDUX, the RNF and RNFQ were radically redesigned in ’07. Features a new narrower nose than in the last few years, and a longer flatter rail rocker (with a more pronounced concave) through the middle of the board. Also with flipped tips in the nose and tail, to vee in the last 6” of the tail and most notably a deep single wing set far back into the outline. The deep wing (influenced by MR’s vintage twin fins) adds more control to the high speeds generated due to the deeper concaves and faster bottoms.
The narrower nose frees things up for more radical pocket turning without sacrificing drive off the front foot. Quads are a great opportunity to get the same free and loose feel of a twin but have added holding power and drive, allowing for harder turns and a wider range of performance in more varied surf. Enjoy playing with a multitude of fin setups and positions for different feels in different conditions. A fun and functional update to the …Lost Classic. Round Nose Fish Quad

5-Fin Shark

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

This year we simplified the Shark into one very flexible model that comes standard with a 5 fin placement choice for a 1 board quiver. Still a board designed for average surfers in junk surf and meant to be ridden 2-4” shorter and 1” wider than your typical board.
It features a wide tail and a full curvy nose outline, a very shallow concave from center through the front fins to a double concave vee behind the back foot. Double wings make for quick release direction changes without sliding. This year we have introduced the dbl wing round pin tail, this extends the functionality of the board into larger, faster waves without sacrificing small wave speed and looseness.
Great small wave board for average ability surfers. Guys like Ryan Carlson and Shane Beschen rip on these boards and Ward loves to take them out into Tahitian barrels. Features the original SHARK’S low entry rocker with flat deck and full steep rails for built in speed and stability. Works great in broken up surf and mushy walls. Paddles fast and makes you look good.

Gullwing

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Conceptually it’s not a fish or a shortboard… but something in between. Features a flat deck, steep rails and an outline with a wide pointed nose and centered wide point. Concave bottom through the guts of the board with a volume neutralizing spiral vee behind the fins create speed and control simultaneously. The tail is a winged swallow with the inner point hollowed out (creating the gull wing shape) to allow more water release in turns and give more control at high speeds (allowing a faster, flatter rocker that still turns easily).
This board has everything you need to compete with crowds and modest surf, yet allows radical surfing and direction changes. Comes standard with five FCS fin plugs and can be ridden as a thruster, quad or even five finer. Tested thoroughly at overcrowded, mushy Trestles by overweight guys with much success and given a real working over by Wardo.
Ride 2”- 4” shorter than a typical shortboard.

Firewire stealth

Monday, October 6th, 2008

“The Stealth” is a high performance secret weapon hybrid formulated by “hiding” our …LOST “rocket” model into the guise of a ponted nose performance shortboard. Team riders (”pro’s”) were stoked on “The Rockets” performance in small surf but were afraid to use in contests for fear of negative reaction from judges. At the same time the “Bro’s” were asking for a “Shortboard that surfs like the Rocket” so I can ride a pointed nose outline. Viola!! The combination of extreme tail rocker and deep concave provided lift and unparalleled turning radius. The low entry rocker with tradition pulled in nose template allows performance shortboard antics with the speed of a “fish”. Full rails and a wide tail keep everything easy to use for everyone. Available in FST (Firewire) technology as a 5 fin “convertible”. Finally there is a board that can be “everything for everyone”. Only available in New Zealand from The Boardroom. Sizes available in FST are
5′10 x 19 x 2 1/4 Bat tail
6′0 x 19 1/2 x 2 5/16 Bat tail
6′2 x 20 x 2 9/16 Bat tail
6′4 x 21 1/2 x 2 11/16 Bat tail

MR Super Twin

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

The Super Twin is MR’s ultimate small-wave high performance board. It is fast, loose, and easy to turn. Featuring a single-double concave bottom for speed, a wider template with more nose area for flotation & paddling power, and the original winged swallow tail from the 1970’s twin fins. The leading fins are glassed-on or fiberglass FCS twins, and there is a small FCS (gs) stabilizer in the center back. They perform like faster, looser thrusters; tons of fun in small waves (1’ to 5’). When choosing a size, a rough rule of thumb is to go 2” shorter than your normal thruster. Available in sizes 5’10” -7’0 / width’s 19’-20.5” / thickness 2.25”-2.75”

MR Retro ‘80

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

This is a replica of MR’s favorite twin fin, which was a magic contest board. Originally shaped in 1980 for the June South Africa event, MR won the Gunston 500 and Hang Ten International on it. It has been faithfully re-created with the same outline, foil & rocker, fins & position, and MR sprays as the original. It features a deep V to get it flowing rail to rail, a fluted wing for holding power, and a template with a lot of forward area, making it a dream to paddle and ride in small waves. It is fast, loose & a blast from the past. Available in sizes 5’6” to 6’6” / 19-21” wide.
normal board.) Comes in squash, or wide round tail. (Which tends to be more versatile as the surf gets overhead).
